Federal Position Descriptions
The federal position descriptions provide important information such as the primary responsibilities of Senate-confirmed positions across government agencies.
The Center for Presidential Transition®, working with search firms, prior and current office holders, and researching public sources, has compiled the set of sample position descriptions for presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed positions across government agencies and bureaus.
Each position description provides basic but important information, such as the primary responsibility of the position, the experience and competencies required, and the level of pay. This information is designed to help the president-elect’s transition team match the experience and skills of potential candidates with the right position within the administration.
These position descriptions are based off the 2016 Plum Book. Although most position descriptions remain unchanged, please reference the 2024 PLUM Data published by OPM for the most updated information.
