Management Scope
In fiscal 2023, the Office of Global Women’s Issues, under the Office of the Secretary, had an adjusted enacted budget of $7.39 million and 25 personnel.3
Primary Responsibilities
- Leads the department’s efforts to integrate gender equality into U.S. policy, diplomacy, partnerships and programs4.
- Leads department priorities around women and girls’ equality, including women’s economic security, women’s participation in peace and security, and gender-based violence prevention and response.5
- Coordinates the Department of State’s efforts on Women, Peace, and Security as guided by the Women, Peace, and Security Act of 2017 and the U.S. Strategy on Women, Peace, and Security.6
- Supports the United States’ participation in multilateral and multistakeholder Global Partnership for Action on Gender-Based Online Harassment and Abuse.7
- Works with the U.S. Mission to the United Nations and the International Organizations Bureau to elevate gender equality in multilateral forums such as the U.N. General Assembly, the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women, U.N. Human Rights Council, G7, G20 and APEC.8
