Management Scope
The Office of Management Strategy comprises three directorates that support the department’s bureaus and overseas posts. The office employed 55 full-time permanent civil service and Foreign Service employees in fiscal 2023. The office had a budget of $31.4 million in fiscal 2023.1
Primary Responsibilities
- Guides the development of effective management policies for the State Department to improve data-driven decision-making in foreign policy.
- Promotes the utilization of data and analytics to inform decision-making, monitor progress and measure the impact of management strategies and solutions.
- Guides the development of strategies of active risk management in decision-making to better support diplomats in policy implementation.
- Oversees three directorates lead by managing directors:
- Policy and Global Presence
- The Center for Analytics
- Consulting and Advanced Projects 2
