Partnership for Public Service Statement on Trump Administration’s New White House Office of American Innovation

WASHINGTON–President Donald Trump yesterday announced the creation of a White House Office of American Innovation intended to bring new perspectives from the business world into the federal government.  Partnership for Public Service President and CEO Max Stier released the following statement applauding the president’s establishment of the office:

“The president’s creation of a White House Office of American Innovation is an encouraging sign that the administration plans to leverage innovation early on–a powerful tool for enacting policy promises, improving public trust and delivering more efficient services to citizens. While government and business have many differences, agencies can benefit from bringing private-sector and federal leaders together to find solutions for chronic management problems, federal technology shortcomings and outdated processes.”

In 2016, the Partnership for Public Service and the IBM Center for the Business of Government published “Making government work for the American people: A management roadmap for the new administration,” which included a chapter on innovation. The report recommends that the administration designate leaders in the White House and federal agencies to set clear goals for innovation, find ways to adapt tried-and-true ideas in new contexts and implement new services to achieve agency goals.
