RELATED September 14, 2023 The States of Our Union August 16, 2023 Presidential Transitions are a Perilous Moment for National Security April 24, 2023 Effective presidential transitions can earn the public’s trust Memo from White House regarding letters of resignation November 7, 2016 Memo, dated November 7, 2016, from White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough to presidential appointees requesting letters of resignation effective no later than noon on January 20, 2017. Letters are to be submitted to agency White House liaisons by December 7, 2016. The memo also includes a sample letter of resignation to serve as a template. Certain presidential appointees are not required to submit letters of resignation, including U.S. Attorneys, U.S. Marshals, Inspectors General, term appointments and members of part-time boards.
